All it requires is melting chocolate over low heat, some whisking, a blender and of course, a few simple ingredients.

Frozen Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

Makes 2 generous servings

  • 5-6 cups of ice
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 6 oz. semi or bittersweet chocolate
  • 4 tablespoons granulated sugar, maple syrup or honey
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder, unsweetened
  • Pinch of salt
  • Chocolate sprinkles, for garnish

Directions

  1. Roughly chop the chocolate and transfer it to a medium saucepan.
  2. Place over low to medium-low heat and stir constantly until the chocolate is melted. Scrape the bottom occasionally to prevent the chocolate from sticking and burning.
  3. Immediately remove the melted chocolate from the heat.
  4. Stir in the sugar, honey or maple syrup along with the cocoa powder. If the chocolate begins to firm up, melt it over low heat once again as you whisk.
  5. Slowly pour in the milk as you constantly whisk to achieve something similar to chocolate milk. The melted chocolate should be removed from the heat at this point since you want to decrease the temperature.
  6. Pour the milk and chocolate base into the blender with ice as well as a pinch of salt.
  7. Blend until you have a smooth frozen beverage. You can add the ice as needed to achieve the desired texture.
  8. Pour into glasses, finish with chocolate sprinkles and drink up.
