Jalapeno Pepper & Ham Quiche

How to make a great Jalapeno Pepper & Ham Quiche, on your grill.

You can bake a Jalapeno Pepper and Ham quiche on the grill? In fact – you can cook all kinds of things associated with oven cooking on a grill with a lid! Try biscuits, bread, pizza, and more. Closing the lid, using some off-set het – also known as zone grilling, essentially turns your covered grill into an oven.

Closed Lid Grill Baking

Grills with lids are amazing. Generally, if you can cook it in your kitchen you can cook it on your grill. The trick is having a model with a lid, racks, and cooking zones. Follow one of the rules of barbecue low and slow smoking which is… keep the lid closed! It’s the same as baking – keep the oven door closed so the cookies will bake evenly.

Cooking zones on a grill means that you can have areas in your grill that have different temperatures. You can have a mess of hot charcoal on one side and none on the other. Or, you can have one burner fired up and the others off. You can also have the zones broken up into three sections. Visualize it this way – heat on the left and right and none in the middle.

About the Quiche!

A quiche is a perfect food to convert to grill cooking. That means it’s perfect for the back yard, the campground, or even the tailgate. It works with charcoal and gas grills. I suggest using premade deep dish shells – the foil pans are perfect for the grill. Here’s my favorite recipe for quiche – with some Real Man Food cooking flavor!

Jalapeno Pepper & Ham Quiche Ingredients

  • 1 frozen pie shell, baked, but not browned
  • 2/ 3 to 1 cup chopped ham
  • 1/ 2 cup real bacon crumbles
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded pepper jack cheese
  • 1/ 4 cup chopped onion
  • 2-3 tablespoons salsa
  • 2-3 jalapeno peppers, seeds removed, chopped
  • 2 tablespoon chopped mushrooms
  • 1 tablespoon parsley
  • 4 eggs beaten Dash of garlic powder
  • 1/ 2 cup sour cream

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and stir well. Pour into preheated shell and bake in a preheated grill, or oven, at 350 degrees for 40 – 45 minutes or until cooked and firmed up. Cover edges with foil if needed.
  2. Try to keep the lid closed as much as possible – but you’ll have to open it a few times to move
  3. the pans around the racks to ensure even cooking.
  4. One a side Note: Depending on your additions and extra cheese, sour cream etc you may need two pie shells. These babies have a tendency to expand when you add extra stuff.
