So Easy it’s Almost Like Cheating!

During my chef demos and sports radio station visits I’m often asked for an easy wing recipe. I often toss out what I call my “Easy Cheater Wings!”.  So why do I call them that? Because this recipe is so easy it’s almost like cheating.

More than Just for Grilling!

This recipe is perfect for the grill but you can also whip up a batch for baking in your oven as the Super Sunday cooking for many people across the USA is a winter weather event. So don’t be scared to go for it on fourth down and try this recipe away from the grill. One note: if you decide to deep fry some of these wings then I would marinate the wings in a batch of the sauce prior to frying. Then I would have a second batch of sauce for tossing the wings in following being fried.

Why I like this Recipe.

Well, the first reason is that it rocks! Secondly; this recipe is actually one of the first recipes I added to my website, www.thedeckchef.com, way back in 2005! I even included a version in my first cookbook Smoke in the Mountains – The Art of Appalachian Barbecue. And there’s an updated version, posted below, in my new book titled Great American Grilling. It’s gone through a few tweaks but the concept is the same! Simple, a few ingredients, grill, and eat. You can’t beat that.

Kent’s Super Sunday Cheater Wings.

Ingredients:

  • 12 to 24 mini wings and drums
  • Zesty Italian dressing
  • Barbecue sauce
  • Minced green pepper
  • Minced onion
  • Parsley flakes

Directions:

  1. Marinate the chicken in equal parts of Italian dressing and barbecue sauce.
  2. Toss in some hot sauce and spoon in a few tablespoons of minced peppers, onions and some dried parsley flakes.
  3. Cover, chill for a couple of hours and grill until juices run clear.
  4. Make a second batch of the sauce and reduce it on a sauce pan – use this for tossing the wings in after they are cooked – adds some nice extra flavor!

My only tip is that if you have time for an overnight soak then take advantage of it – or at least for several hours before tossing these wings on the grill!
